02/16/2007 - Phoenix, AZ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Teemu Selanne scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner in overtime, as the Anaheim Ducks rallied from a three-goal deficit to defeat the Phoenix Coyotes, 5-4.
In the extra session, Phoenix went down a man when Travis Roche was called for interference 83 seconds in.
Then, with the Coyotes trying to clear the puck, Ryan Getzlaf won a battle along the boards and pushed the disc ahead to Selanne, who was wide open in front of the crease. He finished off the play by backhanding the puck under the outstretched pad of Curtis Joseph at 1:53.
Chris Pronger also scored twice for Anaheim, which snapped a three-game skid. The Ducks had been shut out in two straight and three of their last five games coming in.
Dustin Penner also tallied, Selanne added an assist, and Getzlaf and Scott Niedermayer each finished with a pair of helpers for Anaheim. Jean-Sebastian Giguere finished with 22 saves.
Owen Nolan, Keith Ballard, Mathias Tjarnqvist and Oleg Saprykin all scored for Phoenix, which has lost four straight and seven of its last nine games overall. Joseph surrendered all five goals on 40 shots.
With his team down by three, Pronger ignited the rally by notching a power play tally with just five seconds remaining in the middle stanza, cutting Anaheim's deficit to 4-2 heading to the third.
The Ducks then continued to chip away in the final stanza, resulting in the team's third score. Ryan Shannon took the initial shot, which Joseph turned aside, but the puck was collected by Penner off the right side, where he unleashed a sharp-angle shot that banked off Joseph's skate and rolled over the goal line at 5:11.
A controversial score completed the Anaheim comeback a little more than two minutes later, as Pronger collected his second of the night.
Getzlaf threw a wrist shot toward the net, and with a huge scrum in front of the crease, Corey Perry used a hand pass to sweep the puck backwards. Getzlaf found the puck and immediately dished to Pronger, who ripped a slapshot past Joseph to tie the game at 4-4 with 12:28 remaining in the contest.
Phoenix couldn't convert on a couple of power-play chances later on, and the see-saw battle continued all the way to the end of regulation.
The Ducks wasted no time in bringing an end to their scoreless drought, as Selanne netted the game's first score just 3:33 after the opening faceoff.
The dynamic forward, who leads the team with 66 points, capped a flurry of shots by Anaheim at even strength. Shawn Thornton hit the crossbar on the first attempt, then had a shapshot denied before Andy McDonald took his chance on a wrister. Joseph also got a piece of that shot before Selanne was there to stuff home the rebound and make it 1-0.
Phoenix then responded with four unanswered goals to take command of the game.
Nolan got things started later in the period, as the right winger collected a feed from new acquisition Tjarnqvist and sent a wrist shot past Giguere at 12:33 to knot things up at 1-1.
Ballard then used a wrister that the netminder couldn't catch up to, putting the Coyotes on top 2-1 with 52 seconds remaining in the first stanza.
Tjarnqvist and Saprykin both tallied a little more than four minutes apart in the second, putting Phoenix up by three. Tjarnqvist's goal, which came on a snap shot at 2:48, was just his second of the season, while Saprykin netted his 12th of the campaign on a wrister at 6:58.
