Rangers try to extended winning ways against A's

Baseball Betting Lines

09/08/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Texas shoots for its fourth straight win this evening when it plays game two of its three-game series with the Oakland Athletics at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

The Rangers won for the fifth time in their last six tries to open this set on Friday, as Frank Catalanotto finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, and fell a double short of the cycle to lead Texas to a 5-3 victory.

Edinson Volquez (2-0) tossed six scoreless innings for his second straight win, allowing just two hits while striking out five and walking three, and was then supported by four Rangers relievers who preserved the win.

Ian Kinsler and Marlon Byrd rapped out three hits apiece for the Rangers, who have now won 10 of 12 overall.

Dan Haren (14-7) took the loss for Oakland after yielding five runs on twelve hits in just 4 2/3 innings, striking out seven and walking three.

Nick Swisher had a double and Jack Hannahan scored and drove in a run for the A's, who didn't have an extra-base hit until the ninth, and have dropped four of six.

Kason Gabbard gets the call for the Rangers tonight, as he tries to stretch his unbeaten streak to seven starts. Gabbard, who is 6-1 with a 4.07 ERA on the season, gave up five runs and five hits in six innings to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Sunday, but did not factor in the decision of his team's 8-7 win.

Gabbard, who has split his two starts against the A's, suffered his lone defeat in his first start with the Rangers on August 2 against Cleveland after being acquired from the Boston Red Sox for reliever Eric Gagne at the trade deadline. He was 4-0 with a 3.73 ERA in seven starts for the Red Sox.

Oakland will counter with righty Chad Gaudin, who is 10-10 with a 4.25 ERA. Gaudin absorbed the loss on Monday to the Angels, giving up seven runs (six earned) and eight hits in five innings.

Gaudin has faced the Rangers 13 times, four of which have been starts, and is 1-4 against them with a 5.40 ERA.

Texas has won seven of its 13 matchups with the A's this season.

Super Bowl XLIV Odds

Super Bowl XLIII isn't even a week old yet and oddsmakers have already released Super Bowl XLIV odds.

Despite the Pittsburgh Steelers winning Super Bowl 43, the New England Patriots are 8/1 favorites to win Super Bowl 44.

Bet Super Bowl XLIV Future Odds

With their 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII, the Steelers became the latest NFL champion. But believe it or not, oddsmakers from online sports book MySportsbook.com don't have the Steelers the favorites to win Super Bowl XLIV next season.

That honor belongs to the New England Patriots, who are 8/1 favorites to win despite not even qualify for the postseason in 2008. The Pats also have a major decision to make regarding what to do with Matt Cassel, who played well in Tom Brady's (knee surgery) absence last year but is also a free agent this offseason.

Ironically, the Steelers aren't even oddsmakers second choice to win Super Bowl 44, as the Dallas Cowboys are listed right behind the Patriots at 9/1 despite not making the playoffs themselves. Clearly oddsmakers think the public will hop back on the Cowboys' bandwagon considering the immense talent they have and the opening of a brand new stadium.

After Dallas, then comes Pittsburgh at 10/1, but they share those odds with the New York Giants, who won Super Bowl XLII. The Indianapolis Colts and San Diego Chargers round out the top six teams at 12/1, while the Baltimore Ravens (14/1), Tennessee Titans (16/1), Carolina Panthers (18/1) and Philadelphia Eagles (18/1) complete the top 10.

The NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals got no love from oddsmakers as they were established as a 30/1 long shot to win next year's Super Bowl. They share those same odds with the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers – two teams that didn't even qualify for the postseason. Other long shots are the Kansas City Chiefs (100/1), Detroit Lions (100/1), St. Louis Rams (75/1) and Oakland Raiders (75/1).

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds

With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.

Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season.  Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.

This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy.  A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
