Appalachian State delays FBS recommendation

05/20/2011 - Boone, NC (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Appalachian State University has yet to decide whether its FCS program will make the step up to the FBS.

After a meeting Friday, the university's athletics feasibility study committee announced that it is not ready to make a recommendation to ASU Chancellor Dr. Kenneth E. Peacock.

The committee said it will continue to study any potential major tuition increases to help fund scholarships and the landscape of FBS conferences. ASU is considered a likely candidate for Conference USA or the lesser Sun Belt Conference.

"While May was the stated goal for when we wanted to provide a recommendation to Chancellor Peacock, we will not sacrifice making the most informed recommendation possible to meet an artificial deadline," committee co- chairperson G.A. Sywassink said.

ASU won three straight FCS national titles from 2005-07. It also has captured at least a share of the last six Southern Conference championships under veteran head coach Jerry Moore.
